Tylney Hall Military Hospital

Following the recent remembrance services as part of the Battle of the Somme Centenary, it got me thinking about the role Tylney Hall played during the First World War.

Tylney had been recently sold by owner Lionel Phillips and, like many large buildings in this period, Tylney Hall was used as a Military Hospital as the war soon overwhelmed the country's existing medical facilities and the demand for hospital beds increased.

In a list of Auxiliary Hospitals during the First World War produced by the Red Cross, it is noted that Tylney Hall Military Hospital had 45 beds for officers.

Hunting through our archives, I was delighted to come across a few photos of the patients and staff at the hospital, which I hope will give you a little insight into the rich history of Tylney Hall.
