Early Spring sunshine has filled our forecast over the past couple of weeks, bringing a burst of colour to the estate. In honour of National Gardening Day, we have caught up with Head Gardener Keith Fisher, to find out what to look out for around the estate this season!
Spring has truly arrived, and the garden is bursting with colour and life. Our daffodils are putting on a spectacular display at the moment, with many varieties in full bloom. Their cheerful yellow hues light up our driveway to welcome guests.
Adding to the seasonal magic, our flowering cherry trees are also making a statement. We’re lucky to have several different species in the garden, and the colourful combination of these alongside the daffs by the lower water garden makes for the most picture-perfect picnic spot!
Magnolia stellata and Magnolia ‘David Clulow’ are currently in full bloom, offering elegant displays of starry white and soft pink flowers. Looking ahead, Magnolia grandiflora, which flowers in late summer and autumn, will make its grand appearance later in the year. Trained against the walls of the main house, it produces magnificent cream-coloured blooms up to 25cm across—something we’re always excited to see.
We've also been busy in the upper water garden, which is looking especially lovely right now. After some recent clearing and pruning, the area is flourishing with spring bulbs and offers sweeping views over the lakes and watercourses—a tranquil spot that’s perfect for a peaceful stroll.
And finally, we’re thrilled to share some exciting news: our gardens have been entered into the RHS Garden of the Year competition! We’re honoured to be recognised, and we’ll be sharing details on how you can vote for us very soon.
We hope you’ll come visit and enjoy the seasonal highlights—there’s something new to discover around every corner.
