This year we are very excited to be hosting four garden open days as part for the National Garden Scheme, the first of which is this Sunday 26th April 2015.
On a sunny day, we can expect over 200 hundred visitors to our garden open days and they are great fun!
In case you are not familiar with this charitable trust, we would to take this opportunity to share with you a little bit about the great work they do.
Established in 1927, the National Gardens Scheme began supporting district nurses. In it’s first year, individuals were asked to open up their gardens for 'a shilling a head’ and in the first year 609 gardens raised over £8,000.
Since its foundation, the National Gardens Scheme has donated over £45 million to its beneficiary charities, of which nearly £23 million has been donated within the last ten years. The National Gardens Scheme’s commitment to nursing and caring remains constant, and the charity continues to grow and flourish.
Each year The National Garden Scheme supports:
- Macmillan Cancer Support
- Marie Curie Cancer Care
- Hospice UK
- Carers Trust
- The Queen’s nursing institute
- Perennial
The National Garden Scheme’s guest charity for the 2015 is Parkinson’s UK.
If you would like to help support the work of the National Garden Scheme, why not visit our gardens on Sunday, or one of the many gardens that open their doors across the UK to raise money for these fantastic charities.
