Al Fresco Dining in Hampshire: Savour the Season

Set in 66 acres of beautiful Hampshire countryside, and home to carefully landscaped gardens, Tylney Hall Hotel is the ideal spot to enjoy al fresco dining. Whether, relaxing with a bento box by the pool, or you prefer the formalities of afternoon tea on the terrace, we have many ways to soak up the sun while indulging in delicious dining.

Outdoor Dining History

'Al Fresco' is an old Italian term meaning 'in the cool,' which feels a fitting way to describe outdoor dining in Britain for most of the year. However, we often associate al fresco dining with warmer weather when we can comfortably enjoy food and drink outside. This tradition dates back to mediaeval times when the wealthy hosted outdoor feasts. It became more accessible during the Victorian Era with the rise of picnics and restaurants offering hot food outdoors. The concept saw a resurgence during the COVID-19 pandemic, becoming a lifeline for the hospitality industry. Since then, venues have continually expanded their outdoor offerings to accommodate guests year-round.

Benefits of Al Fresco Dining

Spending time outdoors is essential for both physical and mental well-being. A boost of vitamin D strengthens the immune system, and fresh air helps rejuvenate the body. Eating breakfast or lunch al fresco can energise you for the day, while dining outside in the evening fosters relaxation. An al fresco environment is calming and free of stressful distractions, with nature's surroundings providing therapeutic benefits.
